The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate A Squad delivered a solid performance during the regular season, finishing with a 6-2 record and securing a top-10 ranking in the state. Facing a challenging schedule, they defeated several other top-ranked teams, solidifying their reputation as one of Georgia’s best. However, their playoff journey was cut short after a hard-fought first-round matchup.
The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe team also had a memorable season, closing out with a 5-3 record and entering the playoffs as the 34th-ranked team statewide. In a thrilling first-round match, they secured a crucial victory against Veterans High School to advance. Their postseason run came to an end in the second round after a tough battle against Lowndes High School, the top-ranked team in Georgia.
Coaches Sparks and Johnson are extremely proud of the dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship displayed by the players this season. They’re already looking forward to the Spring season, aiming to build on this success. Plans are in place to expand the program, with the team adding new games to their roster, including at least one Madden squad.
If you see these incredible student-athletes around campus or in the community, take a moment to congratulate them on their achievements and thank them for representing Pickens High School with pride. Their hard work and passion have brought honor to their school and community, and the future looks bright for Dragon Nation Esports!
