Pickens 4-H excels at Cotton Boll and Consumer Judging competition

Pickens County 4-H members showcased their decision-making and communication skills at the Area Cotton Boll and Consumer Judging Competition, held Monday, November 3 in Jackson County.

Cotton Boll and Consumer Judging is a competitive event where 4-H’ers learn to make smart purchasing decisions and maximize their resources. Participants also study cotton as an important Georgia agricultural commodity and create commercials or advertisements promoting its use. The contest includes a junior division for 4th–8th grade students and a senior division for 9th–12th grade students.

This year, Pickens County was proudly represented by 21 students who judged four consumer classes: headphones, jeans, crunchy snacks, and streaming services.

Pickens County’s Cloverleaf division saw outstanding results, with Elijah Phillips placing 2nd and Sarah Hooker placing 3rd as high individuals. In the Junior division, Allie Lathem and Lily Peterson tied for 3rd place as high individuals. The Junior team of Allie Lathem, Stella Patterson, Lily Peterson, and Elijah Phillips earned 2nd place overall.

The Senior team of Sheila Flores, Micah Newton, Sky Paredes, and Sophia Scott also earned 2nd place overall. This senior team will advance to the state competition held at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in December.

We are proud of all the hard work our 4-H’ers put into this competition, and we wish good luck to the Senior team advancing to the state competition.
