At a Tuesday, Sept. 28 public hearing, Jasper’s Planning & Zoning Committee voted against recommending rezoning for mixed-used development, which would include 270 apartment units as well as retail spaces. The parcel is located at the intersection of Philadelphia Road and Highway 515 on the southbound side of the highway.
The hearing drew a full house of citizens, several of whom spoke against the development. One woman in attendance, the property owner, spoke in favor of the request.
There will be a second public hearing on the rezoning request on Thursday, Sept. 30 at Jasper City Hall at 6 p.m. Jasper City Council will take the commission’s recommendation into consideration at their Monday, Oct. 4 meeting and make a final vote. See next week’s edition for full coverage of the hearing and council’s final decision.
