Seniors are invited to a health fair at Chattahoochee Tech on Friday, Sept. 27 where they can get reduced-cost bloodwork, free flu and COVID vaccines, and other freebies.
“We saw a need for this in the community and want to be a voice for seniors,” said Appalachian Hospice Administrative Assistant Media Bragg. “We partnered with The Lodge at Stephens Lake and the idea has evolved organically.”
The two entities are working with local healthcare providers to offer a variety of free or low-cost services at their event that Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Piedmont Mountainside Hospital will offer reduced-cost bloodwork including a complete metabolic panel ($10.76); glucose screening ($6.28); lipid panel ($6); PSA prostate screening ($7.09); TSH thyroid test ($5); and hemoglobin A1c test ($5).
The Pickens County Health Department will offer free COVID and flu vaccines.
Pruitt Healthcare will offer free blood sugar and blood pressure checks.
There will also be 40 vendors on site geared towards senior healthcare, many of which will have freebies and giveaways.
“We’ve got everyone from the Alzheimer’s Association to Good Sam, Jasper Drug, funeral homes, ALS, Miracle Ear, and others,” Bragg said.
Attendees can pick up a BINGO card when they arrive and if they get it checked off at every vendor booth, they can enter a chance to win a raffle basket.
No appointments are needed and there is no cost to enter.
Bragg suggests seniors who are getting bloodwork take a snack just in case.
“We will have some things here, but just in case we run out, or if they have specific things they need to eat it’s a good idea to bring a snack,” she said.
The event is at Chattahoochee Tech’s Appalachian Campus at 100 Campus Drive, Jasper, Ga. in Cherokee Hall.
