Jasper Mayor Steve Lawrence received the Sequoyah Chapter’s Daughters of the American Revolution Community Service Award during their November meeting at Big Canoe.

The award is presented to a person that volunteers or is unpaid “for cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, historic, citizenship, environmental, or conservation service activities.”

“We would like to recognize Mayor Lawrence, a veteran, for his service to his country and community epitomizing servant leadership,” said Chapter Regent Suzanne Harman as she presented the award.

“The quiet and humble leader excelled in community service as president of Jasper Rotary and helped organize the original “First Responders Dinner” honoring our hometown heroes,” Harman said.

Lawrence will complete a four-year term as the mayor of Jasper on December 31.  He did not run for re-election for medical reasons.
