Talking Rock farm offers lodging, farm-to-table dining

Kaluna Farm Retreat and the “lens of reciprocity”

By Ginny Morris, Contributing Writer

Kaluna Farm Retreat is a medicinal experience. It is an example of a different way of living.

The land is a sprawling 160 acres next to the Talking Rock Nature Preserve and has been in family hands for seven generations.

Meghan and Ben Jones live and work on Kaluna, raising their two children and inviting people, both local and afar, into their home. Meghan describes the philosophy of Kaluna as a “lens of reciprocity.”

Kaluna offers five unique rental properties: two pre-Civil War cabins, a yurt, a bamboo roost, and a treehouse. Booking is available on kalunafarm.com and Airbnb.

Kaluna also offers goods made at the farm such as jams, herbal teas, tinctures, and salves.

They have recently added a farm kitchen, a true farm-to-table experience that Meghan calls “a laboratory as much as a kitchen.”

The idea is to connect deeply with the land, eating fresh food that has been grown in accordance with the seasons, sharing meals prepared by hands you know in a place created out of love and respect for our shared world.

All cleaning products used are natural, and farming practices are regenerative and chemical free.

The farm kitchen is also a way for locals to engage with Kaluna more without necessarily booking a rental. Right now, the farm kitchen is offering reservation-only weekend breakfasts.

Kaluna also hosts events and retreats such as Salad Days (April 11-13), a women’s yoga retreat (April 24-27) and a plant sale (May 3-4).

Meghan emphasizes, “It is a great privilege to live so closely with land.”

No two days are the same at Kaluna, and every season is different. Such is life. Kaluna reminds us to slow down and connect with the land you’re with to come into presence.

Kaluna Farm is located at 462 Cedar Springs Hollow, Talking Rock, GA 30175. They can be reached at 828-772-4206.
