Tate Mountain resort era topic of historical talk July 30

Alexander F. Kirschenbauer, who spent his childhood in Pickens County, will tell the story of the mountain resort that Colonel Sam Tate built above Jasper in the boom years of the 1920s, as the next speaker in the Pickens Historical Society’s series on July 30  at 6:30 p.m. at Pendley Creek Brewing on Jasper’s Main Street.

The talk covers the ambitious resort Tate raised on the mountain, and above all its golf course, a world-class, state-of-the-art layout that drew the finest players of the age before it vanished into the trees.

The Pickens Historical Society offers a speaker series roughly every other month at Pendley Creek Brewing. Find out more at Pickens Historical Society on Facebook.
