Tater Patch Players
Don’t forget, the new show time for our Saturday, May 2 performance is 2 p.m.
Tater Patch is trying to see if adding another matinee would be something in which our audience is interested. So, for THIS show, we have changed ONLY the May 2 time to 2 p.m. The other times remain the same as they always were: Fridays and Saturdays 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m..
The show is called The Smell of the Kill, by Michele Lowe.
The name of the play is unusual to say the least because it doesn’t hint at the funny performances you will hear and see. This is a comedy (or maybe a “dramedy”) about a group of women friends who, as the play progresses, reveal more and more of their feelings about their spouses.
They eventually come to the point of making decisions, but not without a great deal of dark, edgy speculation. The play is recommended for mature audiences, as the humor in the subject matter, plus some of the language, is not meant for young folks. But the adults who see the play will recognize the funniness, as well as the frustrations, of the three wives.
The women we meet as the curtain rises are Ash Hosford as Debra, Crystal O’Kelley as Molly, and Kristen Small as Nicky. They’re at Nicky’s house and the women are rinsing the dishes in the kitchen while the men are in the dining room, entertaining themselves.
The conversation and joking range from Nicky’s job, Debra’s ability to cook, and Molly’s love of children. They talk about their marriages, off and on, and occasionally, we hear from the husbands.
The wives’ jokes are hilarious, although sometimes with a little hint of venom. They tease, they joke, sometimes they nitpick, but deep-down, they’re three women who have known each other for years and each wants to thrive and grow in her own way. Is this a case of “be careful what you wish for”? Come share some laughs, some surprises, and an unexpected ending.
The show opens May 1 for nine performances. May 1, 8, 9, 15 and 16 are a 7:30 p.m. May 2, 3, 10, and 17 are 2 p.m. matinees. Tickets are available online at taterpatchplayers.org anytime or at the box office at 95 Philadelphia Lane beginning one hour before showtime.
