VFW post forming here

Public invited to inauguration ceremony December 7th

Submitted by VFW post organizers

Pickens County is proud to announce the establishment of its very first Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post. The state of Georgia has officially authorized the creation of the post, and a special inauguration ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 7th—Pearl Harbor Day—in Jasper at 2 p.m. The event will take place at Veterans Memorial Park and everyone is welcome to attend.

The post has been formally named “SGT David Collins Post 12239” in honor of SGT David Collins, a Jasper native who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

At just 24 years old, SGT Collins was serving with the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. On April 9, 2006, he tragically lost his life when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee during combat operations in Ramadi, Iraq.

Also lost in the attack was Sgt. 1st Class Randall L. Lamberson.

The ceremony will be attended by Georgia State VFW officials, VFW members, local citizens, state politicians, and some of Jasper’s finest community leaders.

It’s a day to honor our heroes, celebrate their families, and recognize the sacrifices made by so many.

The post is now accepting new members. If you are a male or female combat veteran in Pickens County, SGT David Collins Post 12239 offers a place of understanding, camaraderie, and support. Let this post become your refuge and kinship.

Join us as we commemorate this historic occasion and pay tribute to our brave heroes.
