Watch out commuters — Resurfacing to Begin Soon on I-575 through Cherokee County

GDOT Press Release

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – Interstate 575 is about to get a major makeover. Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) recently awarded C.W. Matthews, Inc. a $56 million contract to resurface approximately 20 miles of I-575 from I-75 in Cobb County to the Etowah River in Cherokee County.

“As a major artery in Northwest Georgia I-575 sees more than 100,000 vehicles per day,” said GDOT District Six Engineer Grant Waldrop. “Resurfacing it will keep it operating at a high level as the area around it continues to grow.

Resurfacing is expected to get started in the next few months. Along with the highway, all of the on and offramps will also be resurfaced. Motorists can expect lane closures during the project. However, there will be no lane closures between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The resurfacing is slated to be completed December 31, 2024.

“We’re excited to get this project underway,” Waldrop said. “Northwest Georgia is growing, and resurfacing I-575 will provide a fresh driving surface to keep motorists safe while they travel our roads.”
